Oocyte Development

CLIENT: Land Christenson, Kansas University Medical Center

OBJECTIVE: To illustrate oocyte development focusing on the development phase from egg to embryo.

SOLUTION: The focus is on the ovary and uterus where inside the ovary the development of the oocyte is focused on the ovarian follicle and the release of the oocyte leading towards fertalization. Inside the oviduct, several phases of mitosis undergo, going from 2-cell, 4-cell, 8-cell, and so on until compaction that creates the morula. This leads to the blastocyst being created and the later blastocyst implantation that is magnified with a call out. This continues on towards the development of the fetus and how certain nutrients are continued to be absorbed during the process. Callouts bring emphasis on some of these aspects in order to show the interactions that occur during the development phase. Color coding helps simplify the complex information throughout the process and shows the various stages in a linear order.
